The camo and everything else looks right. As to the star and monogram - whether it's German or a U.S. souvenir or something else - I can't add anything at the moment.

If it would be an "M" and a "D", it could be the abbreviation for "Magen David", the Hebrew word for "Star of David".

But it seems to be a "G", not a "D"
Thus I have no further explanation.

Just a guess, but it could be "GI Art" for the 6th US Infantry Division in WW1 which fought at Muese-Argonne.
Their Divisional symbol is the 6 pointed Star.
The MG, could stand for "Machine Gun" Battalion, since the 6th Division had three (3) Machine Gun Battalions.
The 16th...17th...and the 18th Machine Gun Battalions.
