Ersatz Bayonet #56 with MG Unit Markings

Here's a bayonet I stumbled onto last October. Unfortunately I don't have the Carter Bayonet Reference books, but this one is apparently Ersatz Bayonet #56, from what I understand.

Unit marked: 1 E. M.G. K.XIII.A.K. (if I am reading the markings correctly).

I haven't tried my Evaporust product on the scabbard yet. From my experience with the product it looks like the small area of rust build up should come off nicely, and most likely there is no pitting to the metal underneath.

One side of the blade is a bit odd, as the black area on the blade almost looks like some sort of very thin plating has worn off from the steel. Any thoughts on this?

    Best Regards,

    Alan

              That's cool Chris!

I never thought I would stumble onto one of these bayonets, let alone one being MG unit marked.

              Best Regards,

              Alan

Nice looking rig Alan...as for cleaning it goes, I'd personally not touch it.

That's a great piece! The EB56 is believed to have been almost exclusively used by Wurttemberg and the photographic evidence & unit markings found on these back that up.

There's two EB56 marked to the same 1st Ersatz MGK of the 13th Army-Korps shown in The Collectors Book of German Bayonets Part 2 by Roy Williams.

For the scabbard I'd just use a bit of oil and bronze wool to remove the active rust.
