I just saw the listing; it's missing the plume, of course. It LOOKS authentic, but how does one get unquestionable provenance on an item such as this?
IF it is real, the price doesn't actually seem out of line to me, given it's historical importance.

Most of (if not all) the headdress of Kaiser Wilhelm II have golden (metal) initials on the liner... this one is printed. Also the chinscales look to sloppy to be on the Wilhelm II's head.
So, in my opinion the busby itself is original, but I've serious doubts that this is the Kaiser's busby... but of course this is only an opinion and might be wrong, please correct me if so...

I think the Kaiser's schirmmützen monogram is printed, but I wouldn't touch this pelzmütze with a 10-foot Ukrainian without rock-solid provenance.

Ex Mohawk auction from june you must be flipping joking so that's where it ended up, hard luck.

The badge is original, as is the busby, but not the Kaiser's monogram IMO. There are some nice examples of original Kaiser headgear, residing at Doorn, in Vol.2 of Casques a Pointe.

i'm surprised the seller isn't providing any concrete evidence of it being what he says it is, and still asking $25k for it. he's going to have to back his story up tight to get that kind of dough. or not

So, the pelzmutze sold for $16,500 at the auction, and it is now being offered for a mere $25,000?
Wonder if Oakleaf was the auction buyer, or purchased it from the original buyer, who maybe had buyer's remorse?
Unquestionably, Kaiser Wilhelm II would have only worn uniform items of the highest, utmost quality. That would not include this pelzmutze, IMHO.

Also the comment about Oakleaf is unfair and unkind.

And no, I didn't buy this, consign it, or have any ownership.

My only comment would be that the K to me does not prove Kaiserlich...

But to discount any of this item as anything other than a genuine busby is incorrect.
