Well sure but with the few types I've met in my parts they are not really serious about collecting. They look for and buy repros. And I've done that too but I knew better when I did only I had not the money to do any better. The locals don't know any better.

Bavarian Great Coat: Opinions please?

The funny thing is, repros are often nearly as much as the real thing, I have to admit I have bought a few repros to finish a mannequin, I paid more for a pair of repro Italian trousers than I eventually paid for the real thing, but I did not want my Italian arrested for indecent exposure.

The great coat came via UPS today. I was shocked to find it fits me as if it was made for me
The seller never adressed the altered cuffs nor offered any reduction on an already over priced coat. I was not able to get the point across, they just seemed to focus on the buttons and never seemed to understand that the cuffs were said to be altered on WAF even though I sent this thread for them to read.
I have to conclude since the seller comes recommended that in their opinion the price was fair and the cuffs not an issue.

Hey William, if this is C131 from the most recent AGM catalogue, then the seller not only addressed the issue of the altered cuffs, but discribed them very well in the catalogue and written discription.

PS I was tempted by this Mantel as the price was so low, and the condition was rather good, but how many does one need (It is going to get cold here soon)

Can someone post the description? I can't seem to find them after an item is sold and pulled.
As for price I thought the going rate was around 500 to 600 for un messed with coats?
Eric, do you recall that the collar clasp was missing the loop on the left side? Also someone added a hook and loop to the lower chest area. Was this ever done war time?

Here,s mine, sadly I no longer have a picture of my rare M1894/08 model. it was the early pattern with the very large collar with red patches for Infantry and other ranks shoulder straps for Wurtenburg 125 dated 1914. They are incredibly rare today.
Early 15 was a confusing period because they were so many variations. Most early M15 and the familar late 15-18 coats have two steel breast hooks with loops, around the bottom of the skirt are another two (most have four) so the coat could be worn in the French mode and to keep it out of the filth.
But still late war variations show up today. My big job I wear at the gigs has grey heavy cotton lining.
William that,s a nice coat, enjoy. Prices range from $250 to over 2K for the beautiful early job (way over, if you can find one!)

IF you go to AGM and sign in, then go to "User CP" on the top of the page, then go to the bottom button on the page that come up "View my AGM purchases" Then on the next page, click "view items" then you can select the item you wish to see the discription, this will be available until the next catalogue comes out. This link may take you to AGM's tutorial.

ps I have not seen a hook and loop at the lower chest area, but all Mantels I have handled have had a hook and loop at the waist.

It is a very nice example except for the broken waterbottle strap and missing D ring for the breadbag strap. The price seems high to me at this time, but every time I have passed on somethng in their catalogue because it was hige, I have looked back in 6 to 12 months and realized that the price was a good one. I am in need of another bread bag to complete a manequin, and if I had the resources, I would probably go for it, as it would look very nice in a display.
