The altered cuffs were the main reason I stayed away from this one. There's no way to be certain whether or not this is a war-time or civilian conversion, but it might make it difficult to sell down the road IMO.

I recall it going for around $1500.

I guess i don't know how they were altered. They are turned up cuffs like others I've seen. If there is no way to tell if it was post war or not I'd like to think that since the coat was not worn and worn out and tossed but saved in a trunk or something that it was done war time.

Eric who's Guss? And Do you think you used to own the mantle in question? Lets Wrap it up since i called in payment but asked them not to ship for 4 days as I will be away in PA soon.

Stone the Crows Iam for it now!
First let me say I,ve had one of those day,s. It was when I noticed the cuffs
and looking at the stamp again, it was a 'Ping moment' in my thick head. This coat is from my old sold collection.
          Gus,
Bought up a good point it could be Bavarian, but in my opinion it isnt. One thing it,s not a reproduction. It,s 100% WW1.
The question I brought up about the cuffs is because one of my mantels had the same cuffs and was Bavarian 100%.
I,ve also seen it on postwar Tunics so Iam just asking!! That,s all, Hoping for feedback from fellow members. Pheew, I need a drink.

Nice to know what it is but so long as it's WWI I think I'll go ahead with the sale.

Wow, I completely missed the cuffs, I have not seen that sort of cuff on a Mantel before.
Sorry that I have not introduced myself, I am a collector in Idaho, Jerry and Hans know me from the Pickelhaubes.com forum, I have been slow to join this one. here is a recent photo of my collection being displayed in Ogen, Utah.

Can someone put into words what has been altered on the cuffs?

And Gus, what part of Idaho? I am in Washington across the River from Lewiston.

                    Thanks for the welcome Eric,
Willliam, I am in south central Idaho, about as fro from Lewiston that you can get with out being another state.
The best way I can discribe the cuff is a reversed Polish cuff, as the point is at the back rather than the front.

                      Gus,

Good to see you are overcoming your shyness and getting out in the larger world! Pickelhaubes is nice, but there is a lot more out here.

It's hard to tell from the photos whether the cuffs are of a certain pattern (i.e., cut), or if they have just had some material cut out. Can the former owner tell us anything about them?

I have an unissued 1917 dated Bavarian coat and it has the universal crown buttons per regulations. If the coat being discussed here didn't have the 1917 date, I would have called it one of those earlier war Ersatzmäntel.

Like most things I have done lately, I blame you, I was hoping you wound jump into this discussion, I expected you to know the exact discription of the cuff and the taylor who did the alteration

                          Hey Jerry,
I hope to be usefull here, but I am learning too.

Well I know there is a few collectors in Boise. I still feel isolated. The only collectors here I've run into are kinda the wanna be types.
