Can anyone help me identify what unit this tuic is from -
I believe it to be Bavarian - due to the shoulder straps

What branch of service is it from -

- black felt cuffs and collar
- red piping along cuffs, collar, opening
- white / nickle buttons.

You are correct, the light blue threads in the shoulder straps indicates Bavaria. I believe the only units that this coat could represent is one of the Bavarian Pioneer battalions. They were the only units I can find with the black collar and cuffs, edged red, with white metal buttons. The other units with the same color pattern and the same type of cuffs had yellow metal buttons.
