    Photo of Peacetime Tunics

After doing a search of this forum - I was wondering if anyone had some period photos of the peacetime uniforms in wear?

    Tall order
I,ve never seen any being worn in photos. They were only made for a few months in 1915.

    Sorry

I had not idea - so I would take it that an actual example would be "rare"???

Actual examples of the projected peacetime uniforms do exist- they were lovely designs and as a result a number of people must have ordered them (at the time they may have expected an imminent victory?). I'm sure that if not worn alongside wartime versions of the uniform on active duty, that they were worn as walking-out dress, and then subsequently during the post-war years...

Interesting - I just purchased one and will have it arrive soon. Which months were they produced in 1915? There were some moments where High Command certainly believed that the French would capitulate and that the A-H and Ottomans would engulf the Russians.
Or it may have been a propoganda piece - "hey we know the war is going to be over soon... so here is your new peacetime tunic!"

I must admit that I took a shot in the dark on this one - the time was right and the price was not too bad - still expensive in my book.

Hope to learn more about them if anyone can share???

              Me too Arran,
I found some additional info: (Friedenrock) introduced Sept15 to March 1916 ceased production due to the war effort. They follow the design and cut of the pre war Dunkelblau uniform.
Some of the 07/10 Tunics were converted also! I just saw that, that,s interesting because the 07/10 is so dam rare and when encounted a lot have been altered.
They are beauifully made and some were private tailored. Quite scarce, especially Infantry.
              Arran
Do you think the Veterans wore them Postwar at social gatherings? Might be a good place to look for photos. I have a picture or two but from collections.

The Verlag Military book on WWI uniforms has some nice examples of the Friedensrock. The WWI museum in KC has an Artillery Friedensock on display as well. Sorry about the glare from the flash. They are some fine looking threads! Good score if you can find one.

Thanks for showing that one - I should have mine in a week! This example looks like a converter 07/10 as accorind to the fine work by Johan Somers in Volume II of Imperial German Field Uniforms and Equipment the original M15 Freidensrock were constructed of two pieces at the bottom button.

Unfortunatly the one I purchesed the images are off the web site - so I cant even tell you if its a true M15 or a converted one... Will get shots of it as soon as I have it in hand.

Finaly got my first Fieldgray uniform and I am very happy with it. Everything looks original to the tunic and that it was not messed with. I am really happy that it has the proper M15 Peactime tunic cut, all the buttons, loops for a breat badge (EK I or Wound Badge) and a medal / ribbon bar. However now I have more questions than answers about it.

After looking at the reference material I am not so certain of what unit it came from. This one has nickle buttons or "white" buttons - so it could be a military offical uniform (telegraph mostly I think) or it could even be a cavalry unit - ( I can only hope...) the ghosts on the boards look like "14" and there is a red stitched "14" inside the tunic. I also dont know if this a Bavarian or???

                        Any help please

Here is the detail of the boards - the thread inside the silver is a nice blue shade - you can see the actual color from where the button was. The underlying color of the boards is a nice red and matches the piping of the tunic - you can also see in the "blury" shot what appears to be the ghost of the numbers "14" - perhaps that may help narrow down what unit this comes from??

                            Beautiful private tailered Tunic.
May we see a picture of the lining?

I will get some shots of it soon.... I was in a bit of a rush, and didnt have much time this morning. The liining of the tunic is a nice field gray cotton (like?) material.
