Thanks again for the comments gents. This one came out of a very old collection along with the two Pickelhaube's.

I just popped open another beer... I almost let it slip through my fingers... I'm praying again this week waiting for the brow plate to arrive.

That helmet would look very nice on top of my NZ vet captured Trench armour, the current lid is very faded, but still nice and original.

                W.,

The auction ended without meeting his reserve. I made him an offer to purchase, and he accepted. The plate is questionable, but we're going to find out one way or the other when I get it. I will test it then post pictures for evaluation from our WAF experts..

If its a dud I'll send it to you after I shoot it with my "03" and U.S. M1917. My 1918 B.A.R. and Thompson are in another State, otherwise I would completely destroy it. He accepted my $500.00 offer so it won't hurt to bad.

Seems like der rittmeister had an original plate for sale a while back seems like it was earlier this month. You might check with him to see if he would let you send him a photo to get his opinion,if you cant determine if its good or not ... as i just checked , and didn't find it now. Heres the link anyway.http://www.derrittmeister.com/home.htm#Links

Chuck, I keep looking at your new M17 cause I lke it so much but wanted to ask was it ever over painted and stripped off at some point?

As for the plate do you have a right of return?

                              W.

                                W.,

To your first question... ABSOLUTELY NOT! What you are seeing is a completely untouched example, with original dirt and mud straight off the battlefield.

As for the plate... I will not return it. I bought the whole setup not just the plate. Everything, "but" the plate will be sold.

                                Chuck
