    M-18 Pants

    Hello,

Great looking pants and super rare too! Congrats on a terrific find. Mine does not have a rear opening/patch. It has a back pocket instead.

    Best Wishes,

    Christopher

Thanks a lot for the info - any idea what kind of knife, and what it was used for?

It must have been longer than 20cm, which says "Grabenmesser" to me. A Taschenmesser would have been too short. Kraus says that it was to take the place of the practice of sticking the knife in the top of the boot or the Gamaschen.

            Hello,
I read with a lot of interest your messages on the German pants of 14/18.
For me, there is no model 1918. There are straight pants and breeches of the beginning till the end of the war.
A real German pants has a particular cutting with big half belt and some times pockets on buttocks (but it's very very rare).....
For me the trousers with pockets on right buttocks and with little half belt are germans but from WWII...

The model in corduroy is the same than GRAN SASSO, for bavarian troops with the knife pocket.

When i'll have more time, i'll make pictures of trousers from the beginnig till the end of war.
            Best regards
            David

For me this pants are german breeches for cavalry but WWII!

It's a model where the part of leather on backside and between legs is missing; the colour is german fieldgrey from WWII like the jacket M 36, more green than grey.......

Small half belt + pocket on the backside right = WWII

                  Best regards

                        Hello DAKcollector1,

It's what i explain you, your trousers are german cavalry from WWII, Small half belt + pocket on the backside right = WWII!

Look the colour of your trousers, it's completely different from the fieldgrey of WWI. You made a picture between the trousers of Gran Sasso an yours; see the difference......

                        Best regards

Well guys I don't know either way but the vast inventory of evidence suggests no such trousers existed in WWI. There are two members who have a pair and one book that anyone knows of that says they were WWI vintage. But that's it. For me I'd not be willing to bet 1800 dollars they are WWI issue. It's my guess that is why they have not sold on ebay after being up for weeks now.

                                M-18 Pants?

WW2 German cavalry seat - different support confirguration with 2 buckles (not 1 as one WW1 trousers) and 1 center seam rather that 3 as on WW1 trousers.
