Jaeger zu Pferde / Freikorps / Veteran cap ?

This cap was for sale. The seller did not know the exact use of the cap. It looks like a Jäger zu Pferd cap, but with after war added insignia.

There were some half dozen Freikops that employed the Guard Star but my records indicate all were worn on the sleeve or collar. I would take heart in the fact that it didn't come from a dealer with some hyped-up story and that the Freikorps were a collection of free-wheeling guys who wore all sorts of stuff. One never knows.

The Freikorps! A lot of different units existed and your are right, they wore all kinds of stuff! Who can tell me, what is the best source to get informations about Freikorps uniforms? Maybe there is a chance to find some more informations about Freikorps cavalry....?

It could be related to the Garde Kavallerie (Schützen) Division, which I believe was continued in some form after the war as a Freikorps unit.

I would suggest the German Feldgrau forum's Freikorp section. There are several very knowledgeable Freikorps experts there.

Chip, that was one of my thougts too. I'm not sure correct or not, but is one possibility. The Divison had a lot of volunteers from the Imperial cavalry regiments and I read the Jaeger-Regiment zu Pferde 2 and 6 were in the Division.

The Division was well known because the members were active fighters during the Spartakus Aufstand 1919 (they killed Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg) and later during the Kapp Putsch.
