I just yesterday collected these four helmets from a very large and old collection. Only the second from the top has a complete original liner and one of the others has just the liner band. The helmet I question is that which I will post the details of. The other three are just fine.

I personally don't like it at all. IMO it's a bad post war (WWII) repaint. I have never seen these colors of paint on an original, and there's no real wear to it. When you compare it to the original camo's pictured... it doesn't even come close. Again, just my opinion.
If the other camo's were listed at a reasonable price I would not hesitate to make a purchase.
Nice find.

I like it, at least from the pics. But then, I don't get hung up on supposedly "correct" colors. I have been looking at these since the 60's, and have seen many color variations right from the doughboy. Granted, some of the more colorful schemes were painted postwar as souveniers for the doughboys, but I believe these are a tiny percentage.
More alarmingly, some of the recent fakes are just about perfect.
Bottom line, with these, there is no substitute for a hands on inspection, sometimes even that's not enough.
Good luck.

Well, it was at the show and within about one hour I had every serious collector and dealer theretrying to buy it. I've decided to buy it myself from the owner and keep it for my collection. I'll watch for a "scrubber" that has a liner and add that sometime in the furure and try to properly match the paint on the pins. I am not a dealer but collector and will never try to pass it off in the future as having the original liner.
I still have the first 1916 camouflage '16 I ever acquired that has no liner and I am a bit of a purist. I got that one at Fort Totten New York, where my dad was stationed, in 1956 when I was ten years old. I think that this one is a gem.

Not holding out. Been away for four days and my laptop is fried so this is my first opportunity back on the net. For those who have emailed and PM'd me I will get back to each of you in the order in which the messages were recieved. It will probably be in the AM as the little woman is in her usual tizzy over me being out of her control range for several days.
