Preußen, Eisernes Kreuz 1870 II. Klasse am weißen Bande des Bernhard v. Beck

Here's my latest acquisition. The piece is from the estate of Bernhard von Beck (1821-1894), Royal Prussian General Physician and Corps Physician of the Royal Prussian XIV. Army Corps in Karlsruhe.

I've included the German dealer's description below should anyone be wiling to provide a translated summary in English for this thread. Thanks.

    Best, Alex

Literatur: Wernitz, Frank. Das Eiserne Kreuz 1813 – 1870 – 1914. Geschichte und Bedeutung einer Auszeichnung. Wien 2013. Vgl. Band 1, S. 314–317.

Was there any proof that this cross was his?

The write-up states he was the 13th bearer of the EKI with the EKII with the white band. It also states the photos are modern copies, and they show the cross being worn on his medal bar. Which doesn't seem likely.

      +1

also important to note: "der Kern eventuell später nachlackiert", the core has possibly been repainted at a later date - which by the look of it seems more than just a possibility. IMO that hurts the value of the cross, I hope the price of the cross reflected this.

That does not look like a ribbon that was once folded onto a medal bar.

According to the dealer (a former WAF member) the ribbon came with the EK II as part of the v. Beck estate. I've asked the dealer to join us on this thread to help address some of the concerns that have been raised.

The dealer has reiterated that the 1870 EKII and ribbon were both from the v. Beck estate, which included several other medals and awards (including documents to v. Beck's son).

Here is an example of another medal from the v. Beck estate.

If Sascha says it's good, I have no reason to doubt him.
