Hi, I have this chain which looks like WW1. Can anyone enlighten me on this. Looking forward to a reply, thanks, Helene.

Likely a pocket watch chain. One of several types of patriotic iron trinkets and jewelry Germans could exchange their gold for to help the war effort.

The top piece says, "In the Time of Iron 1916". The one on the left (and presumably on the right) says, "Gold to defend - 1916 - Iron to honor".

Thanks vellocino for your great illusrtation and thanks to all who replied. I really enjoy constructive feedback. I have a lot of Imperial (WW1) gear, books, medals, insignia and photos. I shall post some more to learn about.
