Hello - I recently bought a small lot of Imperial medals at an auction and among them was this cross. It seems to be for military service (Militaer Ver.). On the left arm it says Eller-Hoop U. UMG. Which I take to refer to a small town in Scheswig-Holstein called Ellerhoop. U. UMG. I think means "und Umgebung' which would be "and surrounding area". On the right arm it says ZU ELLER-HOOP" and the bottom arm says 1897. Seeing as it's from Schleswig-Holstein I thought it may relate to veterans of the Schleswig wars in 1848-51 and 1864 but unless my math is really bad 1897 doesn't represent an obvious anniversary (ie. 25 or 50). If anyone can help me clarify this I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Curt
