Question regarding Bulgaria Order of Bravery

    Hi,

What does the wreath and the crown on the bulgarian Order of Bravery represent?

Did only People who fought in Bulgaria or in a bulgarian unit got this award?

    Thanks and Best regards
    Nicolas

In general a crown means a higher grade of any medal than the same medal without a crown - so with crown is higher than without crown (like KC with oakleaves is a higher grade of the KC than the KC). Medal was awarded to allied soldiers as well. A lot Germans were awarded the order during WWII.

I am not an expert on this award so I am speculating when I say that this is probably a: Tapferkeitskreuz I. or II. Klasse.

          Thanks for your help.

Interesting as this Ribbon Bar was owned by a Hauptmann,
          I thought it should be
an Order of Bravery 4th Class with Swords and Crown?
But I am not sure if these existed in WW1

Do we have any bulgarian award specialists in this forum?

          Regards,
          Nicolas

            III. Klasse
            I. Stufe – weiß emailliertes Steckkreuz
II. Stufe –weiß emailliertes Brustkreuz mit Krone
            IV. Klasse
            I. Stufe – rot emailliertes Steckkreuz
II. Stufe – rot emailliertes Brustkreuz ohne Krone
            Tapferkeitskreuz I. bis III. Klasse

So it might be III. Kl II. Stufe.

              Yes, that's the one

Wow, I have never seen a white enamelled Order of Bravery

It looks like they are rather uncommon

This one from the picture is not the Bravery Order (text: Za Hrabrost), but War Merit Order (Za Wojenna Zasluga)

Here's one including the cross at top of the crown.

                      cheers

My opinion is the ribbon on the bar should be the order of military merit with swords on wartime ribbon.
The Order for Bravery didn't use that style crown on ribbon bar from what I've seen. I could be wrong however, it's happened before.
I'm not certain what device was worn on the ribbon for a Military Order for Bravery in a grade that was worn from a breast ribbon.
I own a military order for bravery 3rd class 1st grade 1941. I would happily trade it for the same grade for WW1

I too thought the crown was a bit different but then again I have not seen many Bulgarian crowns on ribbons so did not comment on it. This point is worth exploring further.

Can we see the whole ribbon bar please - front and back?

Here comes the Bulgarian decoration's "SPECIALIST"

The reason why some orders FOR MILITARY MERIT (from the grand cross to 5th grade) have a wreath and white rings instead of green ones and are bestowed on the ribbon of the order FOR BRAVERY (only 4th and 5th grade, the higher grades are given on the oreders own ribbon) is because they were given FOR MILITARY MERIT IN TIMES OF WAR as oppose to the regular version!
