If it weren't for the 90 year old translation I have of this, I wouldn't have had a clue... Know what it is?

                Holleben

                Hi Brian,

the first document was signed by Generalmajor Hermann von Holleben (5.3.1804 - 10.4.1878), then director of the Higher Military Examinations Commission. Later he rose to the rank of General der Infanterie and became President of the Higher Military Examinations Commission.

                Regards

                    Actually....

... he prefers to be referenced as "Supreme And Benevolent Master of All Creation", to his friends, he's known as "He Who Shall Not Be Named"..... to his "posse", he's known as "The Evil Twin"....

But, I digress.... Brian, my congratulations on this (unforeseen) return of these important documents! My guess is you are dancing up a storm right about now!

So I should stop calling him "Dick?"

Brian, nice docs. I'll follow this thread as it develops...

Daniel, this is tough to read. I was going to photo on a sunny day, blow it up and see if my mother could translate...

...and Rick, yes original signature on the 1866 Koeniggraetz. ...and on the large doc 1866 signed 1867 Der Oberbefehlshaber der II. Armee. Ideas who they were?

...the seal dropped off the Russian doc. and it's "somewhere" in an envelope. But as with everything else, I've no doubt it will surface.

It is the Red Eagle 3rd with Bow, meaning some where there is a doc for a Red Eagle 4th out there, or was.

Something about commander of ___________ Infantry Regiment No. 87

Here's the doc I really think has some historical significance. The "zum Offizer" of a Prussian soldier circa 1859.

It's very large but it's the only way you'll see the words, faded and very tiny.
