It is ribbon for Order of Leopold. If it is original (looks like) it is worth far more than the Jubileum medal.

There was also civilian version with half red - half white ribbon.

Plus there were also other versions, for example Jubileum medal for Foreigners, which had very similar ribbon as Leopoldorden, just without those thin red stripes on the edges.

So the 1898 medal had a red ribbon for military personnell and a red-and-white ribbon for civilians, whereas with the 1908 cross it was the other way round

Yes, red ribbons were swapped. But in Austria-Hungary, it was more typical for red ribbon to act as civilian ribbon, while red-and-white ribbon (in combinations of red and white) was a military one.

It´s just a first lesson and quite simplified. Austrian Jubileum medals are like a trap. You start to collect them as cheap and affordable medals and end up with "tableau" full of ribbon types, inscription modifications and shape and material variants, some of them worth hundreds.

Somewhere I have read that there was also Jubileum Medal 1898 in Gold (idk if real gold), which was given to those officials, who were - at the day of FJ jubileum - in service at least 50 years, i.e. as long as their Emperor.

As nearly always, Miro is right in case of the ribbon in question: it''s a "Leopold order" - ribbon.
For those who don't know it I'd I recommend the "Austro-Hungarian's"-thread here.

                Best, Peter
