    Austrian medal

    Dears,

First, if i posted this in the wrong section please excuse me and moderator please move it to the correct section.

I'm looking for a nice medal to display with a 1908 dated Austrian pistol.
I found thisone and i understand it's a bravery medal.
Is this medal ok and does it fit the 1908 timeframe?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kris

Thank you Tomasz. So this will fit a 1908 display.
Or do you feel there is a better or more appropriate type of medal to put in the display? I have no knowledge of Austrian medals.

      Thanks,
      Kris

This Bravery Medal is 1914 - 1917 Type. So it doesn´t belong to 1908 timeframe.
On the other hand, I don´t think that 1908 made pistol couldn´t be used lately, let´s say 1914-17

          That's true

I agree with Miro concerning Your display. And another good argument: An earlier bravery-medal would be much more expensive...

            Best regards, Peter

Thanks. The Pro Deo Et Patria 14-18 medal would go nicely too i guess.

If you want something from 1908, I'd suggest the Franz Josef Diamond Jubilee Cross.

No. It was awarded with a ribbon in white with red stripes for military and plain red for the civil service.

Thank you. I must be mistaking with the plain red one.
Found thisone online. Are these faked?

If I'm not mistaken the 1898 version (i.e. the medal) only came with a red ribbon and was only intended for military personnel?

Not as far as I know. This one is real. But, the ribbon is wrong. It's quite a common cross and easy to find.

Yes a pity we only see a small part of the ribbon. Could be the corrdct colours though or is theentire construction of the ribbon wrong?

Yes. But, there was a civilian version (more of a patriotic medal) with a different obverse showing a cheering crowd. That one was on a white ribbon with two red stripes.
