    Hessian Generalleutnant

I have a general's shoulder board in my collection that I think might be traceable. It is a model 1915 subdued Hessian Generalleutnant, having red Hessian state color darts (Seidenfaden) in the matt gray cording, flanked on either side by gold cords. It has the cypher of the Inf.-Rgt. Kaiser Wilhelm (2.Großherzogl.Hess.) Nr.116 with the cypher, crown and pip being in matt silver. The backing cloth is white.

I have tried searching in the prewar Rangliste and the Ehren=Rangliste and though I can find some suspects, I am not sure that I am looking in the right place. Should I be looking for someone commanding a division in the XVIII Armee Korps or should I be trying to find a Generalleutnant that is à la suite to the 116th Inf. Rgt.?

    Regards,
    Chip

    Madai

    Chip,

the only guy who I think can fit the bill is Generalleutnant Karl von Madai who had the "uniform" of Infanterie-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm (2.Großherzogl. Hessisches) Nr. 116 since 8 June 1913. Although not a divisional commander, he had been a previous regimental commander of this regiment in the late 1890s. Retired before the war, he was recalled to command the home headquarters of the 79. Infanterie-Brigade.

    Regards
    Glenn

      Glen,

Thanks for your post. This is the best clue I have had. You don't happen to have a picture of this officer do you?

      Best regards,
      Chip

        Hi Chip,

I am afraid I do not have a photo of him. Perhaps someone with a prewar regimental history?

        Regards
        Glenn
