oh I thought its obvious by now,,as its already named right from the beginning of this thread.

no original medal case opens side wise.
not even jewelery cases ,,,( except special presentation etui's,,,, but that is a complete different ball game )

this one dos open side wise ,,,,, because the ek did not fit other then side wise oeps .

little trouble for the ebay Docter etui who made this one .

      regards kay

            Hi Kay,
You mention award cases dont open side ways, what about eagle orders ect?

Of course, you're right. There are plenty of order cases that hinge on the side.

              Best regards,

Maybe this is a special case.

The last case looks like one for a spoon.

                      And one more...
Also the NCO version came in a similar case.
                      So nothing strange about that.

Like i said before i have seen cases for the ek2 like that...
I recall one with imprinted cross and 1914-1916 date.
I know the typical ebay fakes which look so sloppy,
the case that started this thread has nothing in common with those.
Only the added cross makes it look a bit 'sloppy'

As you say the case itself is period and has the correct ware on it...

maybe I should come back a little on my statement about side opening of etui for ek's ,,as I seen it with memorabilia ( thinking of the ek pickehaube etui variations to )

as there are possibility's that such a thing could happen

I remembered a etui in my collection ..

and how easy it would be to transform that etui in a ek etui
