It's 100% from a medalbar, no doubt. You can see the wear on the reverse frame where it rubbed against its neighbor. Also single-mounted 1870 EK2s are very uncommon since the 1870 KDM was essentially a participation medal, not a merit medal. So everyone got one, and therefore most anyone with an EK2 also had a KDM.

        No.

But I believe this example is an early one from around the time of the war. The detail of the core and the specific frame used tell me that. For that reason I believe it is worth more than some of the €350 ones on eBay, most of which are later ones.

          Hello

A big thanks to you all again, and a special thanks to the Iron Cross God (ICG) for the help again!
          To Trevor,
your 14 000 post is closing in, maybe celebrate it by taking a picture of your whole collection of EK or maybe favourites in one thread?

          Best regards,
          Daniel

One more thing I need to ask,
I have been reading through many threads/posts of the 1870, fakes, A core and B core, now I know how to identify them.
But it left me a question open about the frames, you have mentioned so far Godet, Wagner and mentioned also about some other smaller jeweler made frames.
Is there a complete list made of who manufactured the frames and any picture reference/ reference at all to the different frames?

            Thank you in advance!

            Best regards,
            Daniel

Daniel ,,,there are no Iron cross gods on this forum ,,despite you're enthusiasm ,,,

stick around a bit longer until you can wryly appreciate the throe value of all collectors contributing to this forum .

you will see that those you see as gods would be nothing without the contribution of all on this forum for so many years .

              regards kay

Unfortunately no. It's just accumulated information collectors have learned and shared over time.

                    Experts? Perhaps.

Most here would rather think "enthusiasts and serious students" as our collective knowledge is an on going study.
