    Bavarian 5 Medal Bar.

    Hi All,

I would like to show you my last piece from 2014 (too late, I know). It is a Bavarian Medal Bar from an Officer with the following condecorations:

Preußen: Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914
Bayern: Militär Verdienst-Orden 4. Klasse mit Schwertern.
    Deutschland: Frontkämpfer-Ehrenkreuz 1934
Bayern: Prinzregent Luitpold-Medaille in Bronze am Band der Jubiläumsmedaille
    Bayern: Dienstauszeichnung 2.Klasse (12 Jahre)

Also, it comes with the original Feldspange with the same Orden and Medals without the Hindenburg one, with the MVO before the EK.

We can say that this person was an NCO in 1905 (2 related medals) but during the WWI was an Officer, hence the MVO.

The EK2 is a bigger one than the normal EK2 from WW1, so it would have been made after 1920. The MVO was made by Weiss & Co with center in Gold. This tells us that the Orden was made before 1917. As you can see, the enamel has a couple of damages.

And Finally, I would like to show you how my collection looks like now… I hope in the next few days I receive my new MVO 4. Klasse mit Schwertern from Leser in Silver 980.

    Best regards

    Antonio

          One minor correction:

Medal Nr. 4 is not the Prinz-Regent Luitpold-Medaille in Bronze am Band der Jubiläumsmedaille, but rather the 1905 Jubiläumsmedaille für die bayerische Armee itself.

For those not familiar with the difference, you can compare it with the medal bar here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=770943

The ribbon and obverse are the same, but the reverse is different. The reverse of the 1905 Jubilee Medal reads "AM 70. JAHRESTAG MEINES DIENST-ANTRITTES DER BAYER. ARMEE GEWIDMET XII. III. MCMV", while the reverse of the Prinz-Regent-Luitpold-Medaille has the Bavarian Rautenkrone, the motto "IN TREUE FEST" and the date "1905".

You may be correct that he was an NCO turned officer, but with these clip-on medal bars, it is possible someone at some point swapped out a medal. He could have been a career NCO and an MVK was replaced with the MVO, or he could have been a officer of the Beurlaubtenstand, and someone replaced a missing Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung with the Dienstauszeichnung 2.Klasse. We cannot know for certain one way or the other, so I would leave it "as is".

          Best regards

            Hallo Dave,

You are absolutely right in your comment. Thanks for the correction that you made too. I will make the correction later when I go back home.

About your last comment, once again, YES it is possible that with this system, the medals could have been exchanged, that is the risk with this type on Medal Bar and with this type of Medals/Orden. In this case, what i do ist quite simple, just calculate the value of each od the medals ignoring that they are part of the bar. For other bars, when I am sure the Medal Bar can not be manipulated, I add an extra 10% of the value of each one... just for the fact that "they are together". But for this one in question... no. And the History changes, of course it does, so at the end, we just take it as "it is, or it could have been". But at the end, and specially with this bar, you buy the piece, not the history.

Once again, thanjs for your comment, specially the correction.

            Best Regards

              Hello Antonio:

What is really scarce is the 1870/71 MVM group in the photo. It looks to be in very good condition. Congratulations!

              Best regards,
