You might ask him if there are packets of letters, Feldpost, usw. That is exactly the sort of thing that are likely to be thrown away while the Haushaltsauflöser looks for silver spoons, Rosenthal, etc. That would lose a good deal of history. People will pay a little for them, possibly a Euro or two per letter, but a collection, and of an officer, might be worth a bit more. I mention this as something to mention to him to perk his interest and keep him from tossing such items. If you are not interested in poking through them we can find someone who would be interested in doing some. A German dealer once offered me a collection of ca. 600 Feldpost from a Pionier=Offizier, he was an architect and promoted from the ranks, they must have been fascinating.

I told him that I take everything that he will find that belonges to the man.
As he told me, the family throwed many papers away before, so my chances are 50:50.
