Sterling Silver Zeppelin Emblem or Medal

Recently acquired this item and I don't know anything about medals. Any information would be appreciated.

The back is marked, "CE Juncker Berlin 925 [maker's mark.]" See photos.

    Thank you in advance.

I believe you but could you please elaborate regarding the fine points that separate the fakes from the originals?

Hi, these badges carry a Juncker mark that is totally incorrect and not known as a period mark on anything accepted as genuine/period. The silver marking is way off too, almost cartoon like. Although pictures of personnel wearing the Errinerungsabzeichen fur Luftschiffer (zeppelin badge) are hard to find at no time has a picture ever been seen with one of these being worn. A lot of dealers/sellers describe these badges as copies less honest ones attempt selling them as real but they are clearly not. There are few accepted/original styles of this badge , although rare hybrid or lesser makers pieces do exist, the badge was not issued it had to be bought by the recipient so variations do exist outside the known examples. Main makers were Godet, Meybauer, Walter Schot and a couple of other unknown makers,Juncker as a maker is subject to controversy. There are too many large gaps in the historical jigsaw to know for sure but it is possible they did but............ not this example. Sorry to disappoint but it is a bad one. Look through this forum under zeppelin badges for more clues or check out something like google images and you should find plenty of them . Ferg

                  Hi Ferg,

Impressive! Could you be so kind to show the back sides?

                  Thanks,
                  Michel

                        Zeppelin

Just out of curiosity, if my badge was real what would be it's value?

Under a loop in all reality my badge appears to be the same high quality as the ones posted as original. Are there any other subtleties that I should look for to indicate that mine is not an original? Like the way the pin is constructed for instances.

Sure love the upper left one in your group of 4, Ferg--the Zeppelin actually looks like a Zeppelin!!

Some years back, I bought a nearly identical badge to yours, Tazmaner1: same Junker mark and cupcake (except mine was the Naval version ). Learned right here from Ferg and the other guys that it was, despite all my hopes at a lucky find, just a better-than-average copy--ironically, just as the seller had honestly stated he believed it was just a good copy. At least real silver--hope yours is, too--a little less painful! Anyway, you are are far from alone!

As long as you didn't sink too much into it, though, Tazmaner1, getting a chance to look it over under magnification, in person, taught me much about the subtleties of good casting vs the die struck originals. I found that very helpful, though I have yet to find an original of my own. Hopefully Ferg will sponsor a lottery one of these days!
