    Godet PLM

Here is a very fine and rare 1920-1945 cross that just came in. This example is in gilt bronze (appears to have very high copper content as I can see red showing through where the finish has rubbed), with chased letters. It matches the gilt bronze example posted in the Godet PLM thread but is better strike and quality and the letters on that example are not engraved. The die also appears to be an exact match to the Meybauer one sided PLM.
The 50 year oaks are silver gilt and unmarked and I can not find a match in design to them- S&L and Souvals post 45 oaks are different. The quality of strike is very high. A unique PLM set I think.

              Hi Patrick,

              Very nice piece

I think a very rough guide to dating these Godet-style PLMs is the narrowness of the center (earlier = narrower).

Does anyone else agree with that? I've noticed that the lower-quality brass gilt versions have wider centers, and that the very high quality gold versions marked for Godet have very narrow centers.

beautiful PlM, it certainly appears to have all the traits of a Godet PlM from the 30s-45.

Would you mind showing the back of those oaks without the ribbon through it...? Too bad the first one got away from someone and rolled on the floor on its tips....I had the same thing happen to a WW1 general staff maltese cross once that was perfect....oh well ...the second one is perfect anyway...nice score.

You should be. Post #4 shows a very nice Meybauer that Patrick also has, while the rest of the thread concerns a "Godet".

By the way, the Oakleaves are the same type as attached to this "Sedlatzek" (misnomer) RK:

                        Hello,

What's a "sedlatzek" ? That a new term for me.

It's a "term of association" with this type RK, one of which was reported (in Dietrich's book on the RK and higher grades) to have been acquired from the medal and badge seller F. Sedlatzek shortly after the end of the war. The RK's actual maker is unknown, so rather than be able to call it a "Juncker RK" or a "K&Q RK", as we are able to do with RK's by identified manufactuers, this type cross is called a "Sedlatzek" because that is all that is known as to its origins.

Ok, so the oaks are post war made or private purchase oaks that were surplus?

The PlM is a nice Pre ww2 Godet in my opinion and the Meybauer also looks to be pre war made. But the oaks are early post war or unknown? Fascinating that there was so much RK, Oaks, and other medal activity post war.

Patrick mentions in a thread that the PlM ribbon has glue and could be a display case medal. Maybe the oaks were added to have examples with and without. The question really is when were the oaks added, pre or post 1945? And, does it really matter?

I just searched sedlatzek and found many very interesting threads.

Can you show the back of the oaks to streptile then, since you won't show it to me/us /all (just for the record?) ?

hey strep...watch this, and see if you learn anything ......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soZIRP0MPEo
