      Hi Michel,

I just noticed this thread. I don't own any of these badges personally, but in my opinion this is the Deumer Tombak Imperial U-Boat badge in both "massiv" and "hohl" versions, as depicted in the late 1930's Deumer catalog.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

For comparison, here's the Deumer-attributed TR-style U-Boat depicted in the Deumer catalog. The catalog pictures are somewhat stylized versions of the actual badges. You can see the same reverse setups used on the Imperial U-Boat badges.

Of course, herein lies the dilemma. Both the Deumer and S&L catalogs show separate stylized representations of what appears to be the same obverse design.

The same reverse setup on the Deumer TR period U-Boat suggests the previous hollow Imperial badge is a Deumer but in that case, where is the S&L Imperial U-Boat?

          Best regards,

And then there's this intriguing hollow example from this old thread:
            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=574896
Same design but a much thicker heavier version it appears, with good detail and the same setup. But is it a Deumer or an S&L?

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

Thanks Norm for your informative answer!

Here is the 3rd Reich U-boat Deumer/ Hymmen? design on a period postcard.

              Best regards,

                Hi Michel,

Yes, an example of that postcard is also shown in Volume III of the "The Kriegsmarine Awards" (B&D Publishing). It's actually the Deumer design U-Boat. The Hymmen design is very similar but with small differences in the shape of the eagle's beak and the U-Boat's superstructure.

                Best regards,
                ---Norm
