I don't know if this is a privately purchased case or not, but the simple elegance of the Schaumburg-Lippe cross for loyal service makes it one of my favourite Imperial awards in the (roughly) EK equivalent category.

Dear Frosch,

You're Saxon FAM medal packet looks more like a 'Flower's War Medal packet' from the TR period !?

I would doubt this as a WW 1 issue packet in all honesty, who to say what else they issued in these packets, but my experience so far has shown to be it......that only the 'Flowers War Medals' were issued in these...just like this.

There are variations of a sort with a 'print' designation but they could be false (post war) prints on WW2 period packets i.e WW2 medal designation's IAB etc.

I will state though the packet is 101% TR...it is clearly to me, the medal and the packet together........well who know's they could have been sold as a private purchase item.

You'll find alot of the WW1 era packets smaller in size to WW2 types, inbetween the wars.....mostly smaller again in size again, the odd long one and no cello packets as some sites have or sale.

Still it's a lovely combination and my observations can neither be really proved or disapproved.

PS Who it it possible in the near future to use some of you pic's or others for an article and a future book project ? You have some wonderful examples and I think I could also learn alot from you too !!!

Wrong ribbon, wrong packet. The FAM in Bronze & Silver came in short, titled packets. I will dig out examples/pictures when I return home this evening.

Thanks for the info on the FAM.

I must admit, the packet really is what it came in, to me at least, and I never really gave the ribbon a second thought. The ribbon/packet/medal combination will remain a mystery as to whether it was originally sold like that. Were awards like this sold as private purchase items in the 1930's? Isn't the ribbon for a Baden service cross or something similar?

When I get home early enough to take a decent picture in natural daylight (my scanner doesn't like 3D objects), I'll post an image of a four place medal bar with an EK2 on the right ribbon, bronze FAM on a St. Henry riibbon, Hindenburg cross on the right ribbon and a Württemberg service medal on a blue ribbon.

Marcus, please feel free to use the images I posted. If you want decent pictures for a book project, let me know in advance what sort of format you are after and I'll take some good well-lit piccies (not like the rushed jobs shown above).
