Thank you again. I searched the archives looking for good clear photos of the 1870 frames - no matches again. I'll try and take some better photos of the maker mark and post them soon, today.

The shape of the frame is typical KAG, Z or early WILM. Other makers used this shape also but I've never seen an 1870 with this shape frame (or an 1813).

I'd say it may be an unknown maker -- one of dozens of little makers who we don't yet know about.

if, possible or not possible would be dependant on what you seen (or not).!

there are so many surprises awaiting .
the pictures below are representing the only 1914 /1870 I have ever seen who has a chance to be real .
sadly I never had a closer look to this one

Yes, I've seen that cross. I love it But the shape is not the same as Robert's cross, which is shaped more like a KAG, Z or some WILMs.

That piece sold twice within the past two years. I would love to own it too but the price was too high when it sold recently.

A good point, Trevor. I would guess that the 1914 EK data base is not entirely complete regarding all of the known makers. I'm assuming this. And, even with what is there many of the photos are not clear enough to really judge another EK (in hand) by. Oftentimes I copy a photo in the data base to my photo software, and lighten or add contrast to it so that I can make out the details better. With that said I admit that my EK may be there, but I'm just not finding it yet. The '3' in the '1813' date is very distinct, different from any other I have ever seen in any Imperial core that I see in the data base. But, as I said before, I'm not really looking for core similarities but rather frame comparisons.

Thank you one and all for the help you have extended here. The Imperial forum is just as friendly as the Crosses forum. In fact a lot of the members of the Crosses forum I see here as well.

I FOUND IT! It's a 'Wilm'. Post #'s 3 and 4 show the same core and frame. I confess I passed over it again and again, but here it is...

Trevor, you led me right to it.

you should not concentrate on the core only ,

as cores do not exclusively belong to just one maker .

often cores where used by others to ,,or sold to others to .
A thing not 100% solved yet

so the frame I concentrate most on ,,
al do there can be more then one frame to a maker .

your frame to mine is a tough call to be honest.
( its late over here in Holland to so )

the second comparing of yours to the one in the file,
is what the outlines of the frame concerned a good match .

but you missing the detailed inner corners to compare .

but yes ,, the direction is good .

sometimes we just need to be happy in the knowledge
that we have a nice original piece of history in our hands.
