    And what of the silvered bronze? I have one of those, got excited thinking it was a full silver one until I had it in my hand. I still like it.

        Which of Dr. Sauerwald's articles are you referring to? I cannot remember I ever read this... but I'd gladly do!

        And without this article, I would have assumed the aluminium ones are private purchase, too, by the obvious(!) reasons. Aluminium wasn't easy to get, zinc always was. Anything non-zinc should be private purchase, for this late instituted award.

            I read the article but it doesn't say this explicitly, and it especially does not give any sources in regards to the Verdienstkreuz, so I'm still having my doubts...

            Replacing zinc by aluminium due to scarcity of raw materials just makes no sense at all.
