Just a curious picture, British POWs

    Hi,

Yesterday got this interesting picture, two British POW captured by Bulgarian troops on the Balkan front. Here they are:

And here goes the story, as written on the back side:
For rememberance to my friends ???, from their "Englishmen hunter". Caught in captivity by himself and 9 of his lads from his company, on ... September 1917, 3 hours after midnight, during the attack at... , committed by him and 30 brave men.
Kisses from your Boris, the grandson of Bismark, cavalier of the Bravery order, the Englishmen hunter.
    The battlefield, September 1917

??? - I could not read the name of the family he was writing to. As for the dots, hehimself missed the exact date during September 1917 and the exact location, to keep the military secret.
A company commander with aBravery cross, seems this Boris is the one in white uniform, he is the senior officer n the picture and also the decorated one.

Hmm... I know nothing of the WWI POW camps in Bulgaria?! Not even heard of... But sure there must have been...
You're absolutely right, that Bismark thing, it has been some joke between that man and his friends family.

Perhaps because he looks like Bismark?

Can't make out the Brirish shoulder titles from the photos, an extrememly wild guess might be that they're a small grenade over a letter combination, indicating a fusilier regiment?

Unfortunately the picture does not reveal too much detail... Here are closeups of the Brits:

No, they're not wearing Fusilier titles. The taller man looks like his helmet has a thin band around it, perhaps a regimental or battalion distinction, perhaps just made of the same fabric as the rest of the cover. The other mans buttons don't look as if they're the usual royal arms design or the plain utility pattern, there may be a design of some kind there.

The WWI is so small! I mean, today at a flea market I managed to find some WWI pictures. And on a couple of them smiles to me... who... - Boris, the grandson of Bismark, the Englishmen hunter!!! This time is is much easier to identify, that he and his brave men belonged to the 84th Infantry regiment
/this was one of the later war created regiments. Originally there were 10 divisions. Each division of 4 regiments in peace times, plus 2 more regiments called from the reserve during war - the "Uncles' regimets", as a friend calls them . The total was about 64-5 regiments, but in the later part of the was smaller regiments were created from reserves and from parts of other regiments, so the total grew up to 84-5 regiments/.
