The badge is a beautiful original. The boards look 100% good to me as well.

I have no idea if the boards match the badge though. Someone will need to ID the unit first.

There is no apparent association between the Infanterie Regiment Nr. 47 and the observer's badge, other than they were both (most likely) officer's pieces and they are both (most likely) Prussian.

Both Badge and boards look good. As others have said, they could have belonged together by an officer from the unit that transferred, or they could have been added together much later.

And actually, IMO, the value of the "group" together or as parts would be the same.

However, if you had documents attesting to an individual in that IR....

Is yellow Infantry? I thought even in Imperial times Infantry was white and Cavalry was yellow. I was going to add in my previous post that a lot of cavalry transeferred to flying (Pilots - airplanes being the new "steeds" of the air) although ex-artillery were more likely to be early Observers.

                  Hey Mike,

You are thinking of WWII era Waffenfarben. Before the new uniform regulations of September 1915, nearly all infantry unit's shoulder board underlay colors were related to their army corps color. Cavalry did not have yellow as its color until after WWI. White for infantry was adopted at the above mentioned date in 1915.

                  Regards,
                  Chip

Thanks for the heads up Chip. Imperial insignia is not my speciality and I did not realise that a lot of the standardised WW2 colour coding was introduced post-WW1.

Out of curiosity, what might pre-Sept-15 red and white (not on the same board!) officer board underlays represent (assuming Prussian)?

                    Regards

The badge just doesn't do it for me, as the marked versions are the most dangerous, and we all have to decide for ourselves, but for me, I prefer pimpling in the leaves of both sides actual real wear on the high points , and deeper details to the die work, smaller holes where the observer emblem starts through, actually a little more oval(and lookshiny like they are rather fresh drilled), and then this also has shoddy bending of the flat wire observer badge keepers with deep tool markes, and that just makes me feel uneasy. The enamel damage isn't a problem, although i always try to buy the best examples for the money, just because i've learned just to be that way from the start unless the discount is subastantial, and only if i like the other attributes of the badge cause it is talkin to me . It doesn't seem to have age to it I expect to see, but whatever trips your trigger isn't always what trips all of ours. So ,For me it would have been a pass.

When will the book be released? I pre-ordered several weeks ago and it has not arrived yet.
