        Looks like the lopped off the top of the "J" to make the stamp look more like "I. Wagner"

            That is one damn tragedy. There should be some sort of "warning" box or "thumb up/down" ticker in ebay where users can leave comments about objects being sold, that way maybe could prevent this kind of stuff at least in some cases.

            I consider myself happier if lose permanently my Zähringer Löwen cross mentioned in earlier post, than paying and receiving this one

              I know nothing about WWI EkIs, but is that clasp as you'd expect to find on a real one of this era? I would never buy something like that from ebay, its just asking for trouble, and that's an awful lot of it.

                  Hi Tony,

                  This is not a WWI cross, but an 1870 cross from the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. As for the catch, it's probably the only thing on this cross that could pass for a period part There is a good article on 1870 EKs here -- pay close attention to the discussion of the "Ninth Bead" fake and you will understand the problems with this piece.
