        Dear Paul,

What an absolutley outstanding piece. Are there any indications on the case or cross as to who the maker might be?

          markings

The cross is marked on the ring IVI. The case, as with most cases, is unmarked.

                Paul.....

... Is that a small hole in the center of the wreath on the lid?? If so, I suspect you are missing a small, metal EK device... Case is ringing a bell as one style I've seen before, but the one I saw had this device in the wreath! Nice find!

                  Correct

Rick, you are correct. It does look like something was attached.

                    Thought so.. I would venture...

... That this case is very early in the war and the award was to a Saxon, or Württemburger officer. Remember that both Württemburg & Saxony favored trifolded ribbons (early on) as well as Austrian. If this was an Austrian private-purchase piece, I would expect to see the more traditional, Austrian style case. Also note that the Laurel Leave wreath is a more Germanic symbol, not Austrian. Beautiful piece for sure. Wish I had pix of the other one still, it would help you find an EK stud to fill that hole!

                      Thanks

Thanks Rick, The nice thing is that I have three more cased EK2 for the Austrian fold. These cases have become extremely hard to find. Three years ago it was hard but not difficult. Now the supply seems to be exteremly limited.
