    1870 Non Combat EK Question

Not being up on the early regulations regarding the award of this EK2, I'm looking for guidance.

I know that in WW1, you could be awarded the EK2 on White/black ribbon for serving in a military hospital. Could the same be true for a Doctor serving in the Fatherland in 1870-71??

    Thanks

      Thanks Paul,

Let me take it one step further then. Would said doctor be eligible for the KDM in Steel???

Yes a doctor would get one. About 15+ years ago OMSA featured a German doctor's group on the cover of The Medal Collector. This doctor was a military doc. for the Union in the civil war and then returned to Germany for the Franco-Prussian War as a military doctor also. His group had the US Civil war medal and the noncombatant steel version of the Germany 1870-71 medal. Interesting to note that this doctor married a very young woman in his later years and she was still getting her veteran's widow benefits in Germany during WWII !!

From my memory, without guarantee... military doctors would receive the bronze medal and the non-combattant EK, volunteer civil doctors the non-combattant EK and the steel medal on non-combattant ribbon. Other combination point to officials. But the rules changed some time in details, so I'm not sure.

Thanks for everyone's input. Now the reason I have asked:

Nice Medal Brace to a Landwehr Officer with the EK on Non-Combat Ribbon.
The REO is marked "N" on the bottom and the Crown Order is marked "W" on the bottom cross Arm. Just wondering why this officer wouldn't have a KDM either for Combat or Non-Combat. I would assume personal choice?

            Any input appreciated.

The EK2. Can I find this gentleman based on the fact that he is a Landwehr Officer?

                  Thanks

odd-sniffs Beamter not in uniform in 1870 by the lack of a campaign medal.
By the way Fred-the article also showed the good Doctor recieved the KDM in bronze (combtnt) BEFORE he received the noncom KDM in steel.
Oh to have seen his medal bar -IF he applied for his Civil war campaign medal and was a GAR member!
