But remember--the mini combination is only as old as the youngest award.

Copy that. I'm looking for an earliest-possible date of manufacture on these buttonbacks. From the timeline I hope to deduce something about which buttonbacks were in use by J. Godet after "the split," and which before. From there we may be able to draw some preliminary conclusions about the full-size awards, or even evolving design tendencies, typefaces, etc. Anything could be of value -- to take one single example: is the use of an ampersand instead of a "u." relevant? Indicative of a particular period of time in the like of J. Godet? I feel like there is evidence everywhere; we just need a lot of data. Sovvisor's comment that a particular medal was "suppressed in 1934" also gave me the idea that we can figure out a latest-possible date for some of them.
            Best regards,

              Trev

A few things of interest for you to work with...

As you will be aware, J Godet & Sohn appear to have dropped the 'housejeweller' tag line in their advertising as early as 1922...

They did a J Godet & Sohn PLM mini with the 'housejeweller' designation...

They appear to have also shared that exact type of mini PLM with Gebr Godet... whether they shared dies, had leftover parts which went with both companies after the split or who got what is not known yet...

They then changed to a second J Godet & Sohn button, dropping the 'housejeweller' designation and ALSO changing the design of the mini PLM they were using.

Whether that was because Gebr got their old mini PLM dies as part of the settlement or not, is totally up for debate (but not in this thread please!!).

Whatever happened, by what appears to be the mid-late 20's, they were now using a different button AND a different product on their mini PLM's.

They appear to have used the same type of 'housejeweller' style button for a reasonable period of time...

... but had any number of different ''LOGO's" depending on the product...

I don't have image posting rights, so a short description will have to do for the moment.

I have a small mini mounted on a dished copper button. The button has raised lettering circling around the rim: " * J. GODET & SOHN * BERLIN * " The button is 15 or 16 mm across with a depressed center, and four thread holes.

There are three ribbons on the front: on the top is crossed swords overtop of (1) EK ribbon, (2) a green/white Saxon ribbon, and (3) the ribbon for a Hindenburg. The spread on the ribbons is 20-21mms.

The style of button is the same as seen here, with the exception the stars on mine are asterisk ( * ) shaped, bit five pointed. The button on mine is copper, not painted zinc or some other metal.
