    well ,,,

the hard evidence shown here in form off catalogue parts ,,,do not do the trick in proving much in what here has being assumed as the history off Godet or JH Werner .

    so far,,,,

        Fascinating

Great thread you started Trevor. I've always been puzzled at how it was possible that my Werner screwback had the same hardware (backing plate) as my Godet screwback. Short of it being coincidently replaced with a oval plate exactly like Godets. This thread might haven given me my answer. Thanks.

Interesting. Can you show the cross?

                Not the same

Not the same once I pulled up my pictures, but still similiar.

They are similar, but I would say different enough to suggest (Or the potential is at least there) that they were made by different people/companies.

Both the nuts are different, the size of the circle ON the cross where the plates slide onto are much different..

not looking as the standard known backplate device...fore JH Werner

I think they are replacement parts

                      Likely

Most probably is replacement parts, but if you look at the patina, the parts were replaced a long long time ago, most likely period, and I don't have a problem with that. I tried to get a Werner with the traditional fastening device that you (Kay) posted once on the estand, but I wasn't fast enough. I dolove the J.H. Werner crosses. I was originally posting from memory and had not looked at the Imperial crosses in a while. Once I pulled them out, then the distinction and differences were obvious.

Here is another example showing the reverse of a Godet screwback.

This is part of our friend Tony's (Tiger1) collection--

well I have a big problem about excepting the ek's being shown,,,, as Godet .

in all respect off all involved here, but it is about accuracy off the data we do take in this discussion ......

                          so
the unmarked Godet ek has being identified mostly by its typical Godet core ...especially in the past ....

but as Maybauer uses the same core ,,and occasional other jewellers as well

you cant say these ek's here shown,, are godet ,,as they may be Maybauer ek's ....or others

unless you see the front and do a positive frame identification with an marked ek godet ......or some 3 or 4 ,,to involve eventually some frame variations ......

from that point you can say what a Godet ek is or not ....

its not that I doubt the word off tiger or any body else,, but we have to be accurate

                            EKhunter,

Very nice looking Werner and Godet you show. It may be relevant that the designs are similar. It's hard to say at this point.

I suspect, but I do not know for sure, that this type of Godet (shown also below) was made during the time when the GODET . BERLIN pin-stamp was used.

                                Ok - I've been digging...

I'm particularly interested in the top line of this document which seems to include Sy & Wagner in the equation somehow...

Can any of my German speaking friends put this in context for me?

The date of the invoice is 1930, but the '0' has been overwritten by hand and I cannot make out what the original date is.

                                Thanks
