To be honest, I wouldn't clean that RK, either.

I was just trying to be the Devil's Advocate.

Thanks for the pic of the Goddard's cloth, Trevor. I'll be hunting for it.

      Cheers,

      Bill

        Hello Gents,

Ireceived that early Juncker EK II in the mail today, and thought that I'd try a Q-tip with silver dip on a dark spot on the reverse frame. Um......the spot is still there. Perhaps not a true silver frame, but I did find a slight seperation of the inner corners of the frame where they meet at the centre. Very intriguing.

        A lovely Cross indeed

        Cheers,

        Bill

Bill, the Juncker looks to have Silver plated Neusilber frames. Would not try to clean that, the plating will thin out and might even come off. Any sign of frosting? If there is do not touch it at all.

            Thanks Carl,

No sign of frosting. I wondered if they were neusilber frames (like their early RK cousins).

Funny...I've been reading detrimental remarks about Junckers and their frame soldering skills. Ah well - nothing beats an early Juncker zinc-core unmarked RK

I promise.....no more playing with silver dip

            Cheers,

            Bill

Maybe some of you will think I am crazy, maybe some of you will like it.

You can see how it was before HERE. I am not 100% without regrets on this one, but on balance I like it much more now and I'm very happy I decided to clean it. You can see that I left a bit of patina on the front, and there is some more on the reverse behind the plate.

Good job. My grandfather's medals and helmet were'nt 'aged'. I'd love to see them as he did. The PlM, thankfully, looks just like it did. But the EKs, patinated, to me sort of sad. But I can't touch them. I couldn't do the same perfect job you did.

Hmmmmmm-no,I wouldn't do that with my EKs! To remove dust is OK for me but every thing else goes way to far.Just my two (€) cents...

Why not? I'm curious what your reasons are.

It's like the "ladies"who used 20 pounds of silicone to get what mother nature failed to give them....it simply doesn't look right for me-my hard is bleeding when I have to buy one of these pieces just because it's another white spot in my collection! -Of course I'm talking about an iron cross!!!

Here's a poll regarding polishing or not:

Trev> The Godet is much prettier now imo...

                            To quote Roger Waters:

                            I always said
                            I prefer your lips red
Not what the good Lord made
                            But what He intended

I believe this cross is now just how Mother Nature intended it to be -- it just needed my help to get there
