Ever Wonder Why So Much Imperial Headgear Is Size 52 ???

The good citizens of Regensburg must have sensed things were not going well at the front, when these strapping Teutonic warriors were their garrison troops.

I leave it to Tony and you other uniform guys to explain why the Landsturm Infantry Battalion numbers I have always seen as metal numbers on tunic collars are nicely embroidered here on their shoulder straps.

I've seen pictures with shoulder straps like this before, however I can't find anything about them in Kraus "Die feldgraue Uniformierung". Perhaps some kind of Bavarian custom?

The Feldpostkarte was mailed with a unit stamp identifying the unit, too.

This is the only time I've seen this type of strap, but then perhaps other group shots of Impressive Physical Specimens like these just don't make us aware that they too might have been "strap" Landsturm.

Just for comparison, here is a tough looking Bavarian ex-prize fighter Landsturm type with the NORMAL Corps and battalion numbers on his collar, as well as strip of Bavarian " 'borte."

I was saving this closeup closeup for a "Ja, Ve Ist Der Mashter Race" Thread but...

you KNOW you are in trouble when guys with eyes going in two different directions are ACCEPTED in infantry companies!

That is a seldom seen image of Klaus "Adler Eye" Krumpp, the only trench sniper able simultaneously to aim at one target while tracking another.

The "wall-eyed one and his crew looks like they are lined up to join Herr Dr.Dirlwangler's WWII social misfits and psychopath club. The numbers on the collar in Rick's picture is nice.I've only seen drawings of them to this point.

He was the preferred sentry. The enemy never knew where he was looking..

From the Gollum lookalike (far camera left in the top row) to the angry guy (middle row far camera right)

They make AH look like a charmer
