The good citizens of Regensburg must have sensed things were not going well at the front, when these strapping Teutonic warriors were their garrison troops.
I leave it to Tony and you other uniform guys to explain why the Landsturm Infantry Battalion numbers I have always seen as metal numbers on tunic collars are nicely embroidered here on their shoulder straps.

The Feldpostkarte was mailed with a unit stamp identifying the unit, too.
This is the only time I've seen this type of strap, but then perhaps other group shots of Impressive Physical Specimens like these just don't make us aware that they too might have been "strap" Landsturm.
Just for comparison, here is a tough looking Bavarian ex-prize fighter Landsturm type with the NORMAL Corps and battalion numbers on his collar, as well as strip of Bavarian " 'borte."Attached Files
