I think in alot of areas of collecting, a little faith in some items is required. I think we have all come across an item or two that have fallen into grey areas. I think the bottom line is, if an individual is happy with an item in his collection, then who are we to oppose that?

Now, if you want to write a reference book or COA, you should have some proof to back up any claims. I don't know what Detlev would be able to prove in this situation. An individual could buy this item and later some piece of solid evidence, such as a period catalouge, picture or similar piece with provenance will surface and prove he has an extremly rare example. Or, it could turn out to be something else. A period modification by the recipient (good) or a modern modification done to decieve (bad). Who knows? We're all speculating here for the most part.

If it was for wear on clothes I would expect all four arms to be sewn down. Other wise there is very little advantage vs a pinback. It would only take one of the unsecured arms catching on something to rip it off. On the other hand, it could have been made to sew on a veteran's organization banner or some such thing.

He can ask what he wants for it. What he gets may be a different story.

I saw lot of faked DN COAs. So COA is not Holy Bible man.

Detlev's COAs have been forged. Its best to send him a pic of the COA and he will tell you whether it is original or not. He actively goes after people with fake COAs.
