You don't say. The one's on Thies next auction are stunning examples. Interesting about the frames. Seems the EK1 is marked SILBER, wonder if it's possible to get scans of the backsides from Andreas.

                600E for the Ek2 and 1000E for the Ek1. The Ek1 1870 went unsold.

the ek1 and 2 look very weird ,,to be honest... very bad condition ...
wood like to see the soldering ,,,

and I think that is WY the price stayed low

                  the 1870 godet
                  strange set-up ,,broken core ,,
again another godet modification out off the ordinary

,,,no wonder it didn't sell ..

                  of course crisis going on

Those enamel-core EKs were not the traditional, well known AWS Wideframe types seen in this thread, and in Heyde's book, and in Geißler's book. Honestly, I'd never seen those types before (that just sold through Thies). They are not that pretty.

I'm glad some one said it. I was not that impressed by them.

Agree with Trev, Greg and Kay. Those Enamel EK's Thies had are very suspicious imo.

There's an old thread about another Enamel/Onyx EKI that looks suspicious too.

Think the same cross is discussed here.

I can only think that all these negative comments on those twoo crosses would have been better said before the auction closed. Perhaps it would have helped a member here.
We'll see if and when they turn up.

Don, are you saying that a member here bought them? Thies must have a return policy if they turns out bad? Forgot to save the high res pics, now they're gone. Got the small one though, it belongs to Thies of course.

Frames looks a lot like the 'Blued core' Zimmermanns, they had some 'silber' marked crosses too. Might have jumped the gun on those, the explanation states "mattes schwarzes Emaille". One of the things i reacted on was the very dull looking enamel in the pics, never saw any matte enamel before.

"84 Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse, 1914. Silberzarge, der Kern mattes schwarzes Emaille, an Nadel. Rückseitig gestempelt „SILBER”. Exemplare mit emailliertem Zentrum anstatt Eisenkern sind sehr selten. Zustand 1 – 2. 800"

"87 Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse, 1914. Silberzarge, der Kern mattes, schwarzes Emaille, an Nadel. Exemplare mit emailliertem Zentrum anstatt Eisenkern sind sehr selten. Zustand 2. 400"

Actually, I don't have any reason to think they're bad, just ugly. Interestingly enough, I just recently saw an EK1* that I believe was an AWS (typical pin, hinge and core), that had this frame. So I suspect this was a legitimate AWS frame, or else a legitimate frame by a company that had some business associations with AWS. So, in fact, I think they are likely good. And as to their aesthetics -- well, everyone has to be their own judge of beauty.

*The cross I am referring to is item 16407 on Jorg Kalies' site.
                              Best regards,
