    Turkish medals

Just come back from a business trip in Istanbul. Thought you may be interested to see these photos of medals which belong to a local collector/trader. I tried to buy the chain/miniature set but the chap would not part with it....

        Turkish medals

Close up of the same. The Iron cross is on the right hand side and the star is upside down but the owner was a Turk and his most important decorations are the Turkish ones on the left which are the right way up (the numbers of the date above the swords).

Those would be the silver Liakat and Imtiaz Medals with WW1 Sabers bars... that was a very brave officer indeed.

Here's a Imtiaz with two versions of Liakats. the Imtiaz is usually found in real silver-- as an award about the equal of a Hohenzollern House Order X should be, while the ugly little EK1 equivalent Liakats generally look like smelted and recycled tuna fish cans!

Sooo... travel there a lot? Anybody actually SELLING stuff? For what sort of prices?

A small, but quite semi-insane cadre of Turkish collectors here are holding our collective (collecting? ) breaths!

              Turkish medals

I get there once or twice a year. This time picked up a couple of basic Gallipoli stars. Also saw this medal if you are interested....Photos were taken in bad light in a small shop/both in the bazaar. This chap told me these were very valuable indeed.....

"Peacetime" (actually, all of them 1850s to WW1 had no sabers, so that's a looong stretch and no way to tell whether civil or military awards all that time) Osmanie and Medjidie Orders (your first two scans immediately above, are NOT particularly highly valued. There are "zillions" of them floating around.

You would be quite frightened to hear what sort of value I'd put on that ribbon bar, though.

                    Awooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

here are what the three awards on that ribbon bar look like in a German group. All we ever find are these awards in German groups, never TURKISH "Turkish" groups.

The two stars are for the Order of Osmania and the Order of Medjidie. They are indeed highly valued, as those are breast stars and are not often seen. There are hardly "zillions" of them.

Here is a commander of the Order of Medjidie:

Depends on how you define "highly." I see these offered fairly frequently complete, cased, etc. Commander grades roughly $500, 1st Classes in the $1,XXX range.

Wouldn't want anybody to think these are $3,000 items at their local show.

Me? I prefer mine with Sabers!
