    EKI real versus EKI fake

    Hi everyone,
I******180;m posting this thread for a friend of mine who made me a question about two EKI******180;s he bought some time ago.
Well, I told him that the one on the left is a fake. The left arm frame is cut, and the right one has a bubble mark. But I******180;m not really sure about the one on the right. Looks funny, the crown and date. Not really sure, the makers mark on the pin confused me. So I decided to ask the experts. What do you think?

    Thanks in advance,
    Adolph & Mate.

I certainly do not like the one of the left either. Cannot see anything wrong with the other one but let others have their say....

I also do not like the look of the one on the lrft, the Crown looks to be off centre, but that could just be the pic.

The bubble on the left one is a centering mark for the attachment ring for an ek2, the frame could have been used for either. The frame style of the left one is like the one I have posted, and I think is for Imperial ek's made during the third reich era. The pin, I don't know for sure. Charlie

The frame used on the left hand example is that of a late 1957 award.

The 'bubble' mark is the guiding used for the ribbon suspension loop of a 1957 EKII.

Both later 1957 EK1's and EKII's used the same frame.

The faker of the left hand example of the 1914 EK1 here has got hold of a late model 1957 frame to build this piece on.

                    Hope this helps/is of interest.

                    Regards ...

I think the one on the right is perfectly original, but the one on the left is absolutely a repro, probably not very old. They may have taken apart a 1957'er, or they may have just made them the same way. The pin is so bad, I don't think you would even see that on a "real" 1957 cross.

Id Add the "bubble" or location guide is also seen on 1939-45 ek2s.

Thanks guys for your comments. Interesting point about the 1957 award.

                          Best regards,
                          Adolph.
