    Hi,

I have concerns over the hardware, the maker mark (the poorly formed "fec." in particular) and the striations. I have a suspicion this is a very good repro.

What about this one instead? Seems good to me.

Again, imo, not an original - another (different) high end fake. The hardware is on the wrong position and hold-solder scorch marks are usually a massive red flag. The maker mark is poorly formed. The outline of the badge is nowhere near correct.

                Hi Achille!
Just a remark on the makers mark flaw, in case you didn´t know yet:
The name of the artist (and maker) was SCHOTT. Standing close together, both "T"s had a common horizontal bar...
The punch was damaged - the vertical part of the first "T" broke off... - so the remaining vertical part of the second "T" can never be centered -
like it´s seen on the last piece you show us...
A very "easy-to-spot" giveaway for fakes, imho.
                Regards
                Hagrid

Thanks Hagrid and Mike. Seems it's plenty of fakes out there.. Anyway what's, in your opinion, the market value for an original one? Maybe I'm looking at pieces with too low price. I'm not an expert: I'm looking for a good one just to complete a KM uniform I've in my collection.

Not my field of collecting but a decent example from this maker might cost 5-6 hundred euro.

I agree, the second badge is also a cast reproduction. Here are two more examples of the same fake -- as you can see they mount the hardware at various levels.

It's cast from a Deumer-design badge, not the Schott design, with a spurious "Schot" mark added, unlike the first fake you posted which at least was cast from a Schott-design badge.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm
