Early headgear Jungdeutscher Orden - JDO Erfurt Thüringen

This cap from my collection was stored in a box since a few years. Now I have decided to give the cap a little bit of "fresh air".

    Maker from Erfurt in Thüringen.

A typical cap from the Weimar era, but no typical JDO cap.

    An early JDO cap.

The standard JDO cap pattern. Black band, white piping and grey/green top.

Some JDO musicans from Weimar in Thüringen with early local made caps. Notice the black piping!

            Fantastic Hat!!!

I'm always tempted to stray from collecting strictly Freikorps, by the terrific items you post from your collection.

I hope, you will stay in your main field of collecting.

If somebody would find his cap today, nobody would think it is a cap of a Jungbruder of the Jungdeutscher Orden.

I saw this postcard and thought it was a fantastic picture. Do you think the hat is a bit of creativity on his part? The wreath is early Reichswehr from 1919 and the whip-cord is forestry service, I think.

This cap is phrased as "Zivilmütze" and was sold in the 1920's and one can buy them in Germany still these days. The blacks cords is a normal feature (and has nothing to do with customs, forestry or whatever). Caps as this were often worn by early air-organizations (the old Deutscher Luftfahrt-Verband), sports and sailing and were worn with numerous civil and military-like symbols. Various cataloques from headgear-manufacturers (Clemens Wagner, Erich Beinhorn etc) offered such caps.
