    Early headgear Jungdeutscher Orden - JDO Erfurt Thüringen

    This cap from my collection was stored in a box since a few years. Now I have decided to give the cap a little bit of "fresh air".

    Maker from Erfurt in Thüringen.

    A typical cap from the Weimar era, but no typical JDO cap.

                If somebody would find his cap today, nobody would think it is a cap of a Jungbruder of the Jungdeutscher Orden.

                  I saw this postcard and thought it was a fantastic picture. Do you think the hat is a bit of creativity on his part? The wreath is early Reichswehr from 1919 and the whip-cord is forestry service, I think.

                    This cap is phrased as "Zivilmütze" and was sold in the 1920's and one can buy them in Germany still these days. The blacks cords is a normal feature (and has nothing to do with customs, forestry or whatever). Caps as this were often worn by early air-organizations (the old Deutscher Luftfahrt-Verband), sports and sailing and were worn with numerous civil and military-like symbols. Various cataloques from headgear-manufacturers (Clemens Wagner, Erich Beinhorn etc) offered such caps.
