top photo: MG squad, Freikorps Epp, 1. bayerische Reichswehr-Schützen-Regiment 41. sometime between June and October 1919.

bottom photo: MW squad made up of mixed Freikorps soldiers. A member of Freikorps Lützow (posthorn collar badge) holds a shovel, while a member of the Garde-Kavallerie-Schützen-Division has his hand on the MW pull-cord. Note the MG badge with the typical black backing favored by the Freikorps. The photo is likely sometime in early March 1919 as both units were in Berlin for the brutal action against the Spartacist-led general strike which also included a revolt by the Volks-Marine Division who joined the Spartacists. Imagine this group lobbing their mines into the 10,000 revolutionaries jammed into the working-class tenements of East Berlin from March 9-12. It's no wonder 1200-1500 died and 12,000 were wounded.

        Freikorps Schleswig-Holstein

Freikorps Schleswig-Holstein was formed on 12 February 1919 in Rendsburg from Infanterie Regiment 85. It was made up of two units: Regiment Seyfert and
Regiment Schelle and was used as a guard unit in Berlin as part of Garde-Kavallerie-Schützen-Division. In July it fought against the Red forces in Hamburg.

It was disbanded in August 1919 and used to form a harbor protection unit in Hamburg.

The photo shows members wearing both the Garde-Kavallerie-Schützen-Division and Freikorps Schleswig-Holstein collar badges. Based on this, the photo was likely taken in Berlin between January and April 1919.
