Can you show it from the side? These medals should taper thinner at the bottom. They're not an even thickness all the way around.

I can try to get something up this evening.

Is the taper visible to the nakid eye? It would be an interesting comparison if others could do the same.

In most cases they are thinner at the top.

Took a scale to it, very top to the very bottom.... I don't want to post actual numbers, but it definitely tapers.

Nice medal, congrats! Beautiful "been there" look and patina. Is the ribbon original as well? Did you try it in UV light?

Yes. I knew I was wrong. Top, not bottom.

I don't have access to a UV light, but Im confident this ribbon came with the medal a long time ago. Both items have the same musty smell.

If I can get a hold of a black light in the UK I'll give it the test and post results.

You need one! It is not helpful in every case, but sometimes it can help.

I'll pick one up when I get back to the States.

How long ago did people start using UV lights for fabric authenticity? I dont recall the method being used in the mid 90s when I stopped collecting 3rd Reich.
