I have a question regarding the last picture. The Fallschirmjager appears to be the rank of Gefreiter. The cockade appearing on the beret' to me appears to be incorrect for this rank. Am I wrong?

You are wrong Mike. Since 1986 officers, nco and soldiers worn the same kind of orange beret.
(only the orange beret)

René (at least I think it's René ;-), is right, it's documented in many photos. That's why original orange berets with the small enlisted coat of arms cockade are very hard to find now days.

After 1986 all ranks worn the larger "officer" style cockade on the orange beret. On the grey beret the smaller enlisted cockade was retained.
