                delta576,

A great thread. Thanks for sharing with us. This obviously took a lot of time and dedication on your part.

I have a question regarding the last picture. The Fallschirmjager appears to be the rank of Gefreiter. The cockade appearing on the beret' to me appears to be incorrect for this rank. Am I wrong?

You are wrong Mike. Since 1986 officers, nco and soldiers worn the same kind of orange beret.
                    (only the orange beret)

René (at least I think it's René ;-), is right, it's documented in many photos. That's why original orange berets with the small enlisted coat of arms cockade are very hard to find now days.

I didn't inquire about the beret' color. I inquired about the cockade that is on the beret'. The Fallschirmjager depicted in the picture, appears to hold the rank of Gefreiter. I am asking if the cockade that is on the beret' is of the correct type for this rank?

                        Thanks,

After 1986 all ranks worn the larger "officer" style cockade on the orange beret. On the grey beret the smaller enlisted cockade was retained.

Great thread illustrating sleeve patches from period photos.

Thanks delta576 for taking the time to create this thread.
